Situated on the south east coast, Puerto del Carmen is the busiest resort on the island. Once a small fishing village, the resort now stretches for 3km along the coast and consists of four main areas which are referred to as the Old Town, the New Town, Los Pocillos and Matagorda, which are all joined by a well lit promenade. From the Old Town with its quaint fishing harbour and superb fish restaurants through the New Town with its wide sandy beach, sophisticated shops and bars and restaurants and on to the more subdued areas of Los Pocillos and Matagorda, this resort offers much to the visitor whilst still retaining a charming, traditional atmosphere. The Old Town and New Town are busier and hillier whereas Los Pocillos and Matagorda are flatter and quieter. The sandy beaches are perfect for families. There is a small cove in the Old Town area called Playa Chica and the rest of the beaches stretch the length of the resort, separated by small rocky areas. Puerto del Carmen offers the widest selection of villas in Lanzarote with something to suit every taste and budget. Transfer time 15 minutes.
